Man jumps from hotel room window in foot chase turned officer-involved shooting in Deptford

Investigators in Deptford are sharing new information about an officer-involved shooting that unfolded on Thanksgiving during a foot chase that started at a local hotel.

Officers were called to the Fairfield Inn around 1 p.m. for reports of an occupant who was acting aggressively.

Investigators say 58-year-old Jeffrey Jaworski slammed the door when police first arrived, then jumped from his second floor window when police entered the room with help from hotel staff.

Jaworski ran through the parking lot and into a dense wooded area behind the hotel, and told police he was armed with a gun. That's when a Deptford police officer fired three times, striking Jaworski.

He continued to run from police through the woods and onto Route 42, where he was taken into custody and brought to the hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Jaworski was charged with being a fugitive from justice and possession of a controlled substance.

The shooting is still being investigated by the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
