POTTSTOWN, Pa. (WTXF) - Officials in Pottstown are investigating a deadly police-involved shooting near an auto shop.
The incident occurred on the unit block of High Street outside an auto body shop called Red Arrow Auto around 4:30 a.m.
Officers responded to the scene for a welfare check on a reportedly suicidal man.
When police arrived on scene a witness tells FOX 29's Steve Keeley a local maintenance worker had been threatening to harm himself and police and was holding a gun.
The witness says the man had pointed the gun at himself and police and refused multiple commands to put the weapon down. Police later recovered a BB gun in proximity to the suspect.
After continued refusals, the witness says police opened fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was then transported to a local hospital by helicopter but later died, according to police.
An officer was also taken to the hospital following the incident.
