Man killed after being shot in chest in Old City, Philly police say

Police say a 25-year-old man died after being shot in the chest in Old City Monday night.

Philadelphia police say a man was shot and killed in Old City.

It happened on the 300 block of Chestnut Street in front of the Science History Institute Monday around 9:30 p.m.

According to police, the 25-year-old man, later identified as Jhalil Shands, was shot once in the chest and died at the scene.

Shands was walking with his girlfriend when a van of four men pulled over and fired 27 shots, Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Police believe the victim was targeted. The woman was not injured.

So far, no arrests have been made and a weapon has not been recovered. The van possibly had Maryland tags.
