Man on train with five weapons arrested in Trenton: officials

An unattended bag at Newark Penn Station, prompted the arrest of a man on an Amtrak train in Trenton.

New Jersey Transit Police were dispatched to Newark Penn Station on the word of an unattended bag Friday afternoon, around 3 p.m., officials said.

As they looked through the bag, police found a handgun and a loaded rifle. Police realized that the owner of the bag was on an Amtrak train that was headed to Virginia.

The train the man was on had made a stop in Trenton. Police were able to arrest the man on that train, though, officials say, he initially resisted arrest.

Police then discovered the man had with him three handguns and two rifles. A K9 sweep was ordered and the train was cleared.

New Jersey Transit Police say the investigation is ongoing, though no further details about the arrest have been released.
