McDonald's diners not ‘Lovin' It' when driver hits building

A late lunch at a Delaware McDonald's ended with two people taken to the hospital and the man who drove into the restaurant cited for careless driving.

Delaware State Police say Thomas Harding, 73 of Bear, was driving a 2011 Kia Sorento in the parking lot of the McDonald's at 4160 Ogletown-Stanton Road in Newark.

That was at 2:06pm Monday.

Police say Harding backed his car out of its space but then "continued across the parking lot and drive-thru lane. The Kia continued and struck the building with its rear bumper stopping just inside McDonald's. As a result, one patron was struck by the vehicle and another was struck by a table. One other person was able to jump out of the way to avoid being struck."

Michael Riastick, 31 of Bear, and Kevin Thompson, 24 of Florida, were treated at the scene and then taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Sonny Riastick, 29 of Bear, was not injured.

Neither was Thomas Harding nor his passenger, Judith Harding.

Police say Thomas Harding "did not recognize his vehicle was still in reverse" and cited him for careless driving.
