Update on proposed UPS warehouse in Bustleton provided in meeting

It’s been several years since the beginning of a battle in the Bustleton area of Northeast Philadelphia involving a proposed UPS warehouse.

The Greater Bustleton Civic League (GBCL) provided an update on the project in a meeting Tuesday.

The backstory:

We first reported on this issue in 2020 when residents thought the warehouse development would have happened within two years. But it's been tied up in court.

What we know:

The GBCL and some community members feel the warehouse would cause noise and traffic problems.

They fear an increase in trucks on the road particularly tractor trailers.

The GBCL says there are several legal issues involving the project that have them in court and that they’ve appealed permits for the project and are now being sued.

The site is located at 1 Red Lion Road. The land is the old Bud plant and a golf course and sits across from a residential community.

What they're saying:

Jack O’Hara is the president of the Greater Bustleton Civic League and updated community members who attended a meeting tonight.

"We're in now Pennsylvania Supreme Court but in that entire time, four years, four plus years, we’ve never been able to put on our case," he said.

"It’s too big. What they want to do is too big for the space they want to do it in. So there's going to be a ripple effect," said O’Hara.

The other side:

FOX 29 contacted UPS for comment. We’re waiting to hear back.

A representative for 10th District City Councilman Brian O’Neill, who represents the district, attended the meeting tonight.

She tells FOX 29 Councilman O’Neill was involved in the issue early on but that she could not comment on his behalf.
