Memorial Day forecast: Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Delaware Valley
PHILADELPHIA - The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Philadelphia and most of the Delaware Valley.
The advisory, issued Monday afternoon, comes ahead of a strong cluster of storms that forecasters believe will roll over the region during the evening hours.
Bouts of thunder and lightning are expected with heavy downpours that forecasters say will increase in intensity from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The national weather service says the storms could bring wind gusts up to 65 MPH which raises some concerns for the possibility of tornadic activity.
Philadelphia International Airport said weather is impacting flights, and advised travelers to check with their airlines for updates.
Temperatures will stay muggy and roll over into Tuesday when skies are expected to clear and bright sunshine will keep conditions in the 80s for one more day before the 70s return.
