Memorial services set for Senator John McCain

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- The nation is remembering Arizona Senator John McCain. The six-term senator, longtime lawmaker and former presidential nominee lost his battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer a little more than a year after revealing the diagnosis.

According to a statement released by McCain's Senate Office on Monday, the senator's casket will be placed on a catafalque in the center of the Arizona State Capitol's rotunda. McCain's motorcade will arrive at the Capitol at around 9:50 a.m., and the doors will open for the public to pay the respects ar around 2:00 p.m.

"I have reassurances as long as there are people in line to file through to see John, the Capitol will remain open," said former McCain advisor Rick Davis.

A memorial service will take place at the North Phoenix Baptist Church near Central Avenue and Bethany Home Road., a ticket is required, but as of Monday afternoon, there are no more free tickets available.

Doors will open at 8:15 a.m., and the service will start at 10:00 a.m. Tributes from various people, including former Vice President Joe Biden, former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods, Arizona Cardinals player Larry Fitzgerald, Jr., and McCain's son and daughter will be read.

Later on in the day, McCain's casket will be flown to Washington D.C. from Phoenix.

Senator McCain will lie in state at the United States Capitol's rotunda. A ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern Time), and will include remarks by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and Vice President Mike Pence.

Doors will open at 2:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) for the public to pay their respects.

A national memorial service will be held at Washington National Cathedral, starting at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern Time). A number of people, including former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, are expected to speak. McCain's sons and daughters, Jimmy, Meghan and Sidney, are also expected to speak.
