KENSINGTON (WTXF) - The mother of a two-year-old Kensington boy who died earlier this week has now been charged in connection with his death.
Andrea Worrell, 23, has now been charged with endangering the welfare and obstructing justice; the investigation is ongoing with the homicide unit.
Police responded to a call for an unresponsive child on the 600 block of Clementine Street just before midnight Tuesday. When police arrived on scene, they were met by the Andrea Worrell and a man who were holding the child, who has been identified as Zyair Worrell.
Worrell identified herself as the boy's mother, and the man was identified as her 21-year-old boyfriend.
The child was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital by police where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

An autopsy showed the boy had a fractured rib, lacerated liver, bruising of his chest wall, and an abrasion over his right eye according to authorities. Worrell also tested positive for THC. Police say the boy's mother is at the homicide unit along with her boyfriend who is not the natural father of the child.
Investigators have determined the motive to be child abuse, but no arrests have been made at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
