OLD CITY (FOX 29) - A 19-year-old New Jersey woman is dead after a car accident in which four other people were injured in Philadelphia.
Officials say a car was traveling south on I-95 early Sunday morning, about 3:30 a.m. The car apparently stopped near Columbus Boulevard in the right travel lane.
Police say a tractor-trailer traveling behind the car hit the car after it came to a stop. The tractor-trailer stopped at the scene.
One 19-year-old female in the backseat of the car was killed on impact of the tractor-trailer striking the car.
A second 19-year-old female passenger traveling in the car either fell out or walked out of the car and was struck by a dark colored SUV. That vehicle did not stop after striking the woman.
The 34-year-old driver was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital with minor injuries.
Two additional passengers, a 27-year-old female and a 25-year-old man, were taken to Jefferson Hospital and treated for minor injuries. The 19-year-old woman struck by the SUV was also transported to Jefferson Hospital and treated for moderate injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
