New Jersey trooper uses tourniquet to save crash victim

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS TWP. (WTXF) - A state trooper came to the rescue for one man who suffered a serious car crash in New Jersey.

Around 9:45 p.m. on September 16, troopers responded to a crash on I-80. Upon their arrival, officers discovered that an SUV with two occupants traveled off the road, crashing into a tree.

Two off-duty first responders had removed the driver from the vehicle to rendered aid, but told State Trooper I William Legg that the victim had sustained serious injuries.

Tpr. Legg radioed to dispatch requesting advanced life support, but knew he had to attend to the driver's heavily bleeding arm by applying a tourniquet.

Medics transported the victims to Morristown Memorial Hospital shortly afterward in critical condition. The victims later improved to stable condition.

New Jersey State Police applauded Tpr. Legg's quick and decision actions, which they credit for increasing the driver's chances of survival.
