NJ custodian accused of putting bodily fluids in school lunches pleads guilty
UPPER DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J - A former custodian could spend at least 5 years in prison for lewd acts that officials say he committed on the job, and were captured on video.
Giovanni Impellizzeri, 27, pleaded guilty on Monday to official misconduct and possession of child sexual abuse materials.
The backstory:
The guilty plea comes more than a year after Impellizzeri was arrested for putting bodily fluids and cleaning products into school lunches at Elizabeth Moore School in Upper Deerfield Township.
Officials say he recorded himself contaminating the food, as well as performing sexual acts with school objects and cooking utensils. Those videos were then shared with an online chat group.
An investigation also revealed that Impellizzeri was in possession of child sexual abuse materials.
He was employed as a school district custodian at the time, but was terminated by the school board in November 2023.
What they're saying:
Parents spoke out following his arrest, expressing their disappointment with how the school handled the incident.
"He wanted to hurt our children in one place and that should be the safest place outside our home," Biance Pierce said.
Impellizzeri was initially charged with Aggravated Assault, Tampering with Food Products, Attempted Endangering and Official Misconduct, and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials. He pleaded guilty to Official Misconduct and Possession of CSAM.
What's next:
He could be sentenced to up to 5 years in state prison before being eligible for parole. His sentencing is scheduled for March 28.
