TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP, PA (WTXF) - A 17-year-old student is facing several arson charges after Tuesday's fire at North Penn High School.
You may remember more than 3,000 people had to be evacuated and the school day was cut short. The fire was in a band storage room. Authorities found heavy smoke in the building.
Now, the investigation led to a suspect who was detained at the Montgomery County Youth Detention Center.
Charges filed through juvenile court include danger of death or bodily injury, endangering persons, aggravated arson, endangering property, causing catastrophe, risking catastrophe, criminal mischief, institutional vandalism to an educational facility, recklessly endangering another person, and possession of instrument of crime.
The fire damaged the band storage area and classrooms on the first floor. Also, there was smoke exposure to a large portion of the building.
The North Penn School District has not yet determined the cost to repair the damage.
