Northampton District Attorney asks that Yukai Yang be held without bail
NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, P.A. (WTXF) - The former Lehigh University student accused of poisoning his roommate is back in the Northampton County prison.
Yukai Yang posted $200,000 cash bail over the Christmas holiday weekend. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took custody of Yang, and placed him in a holding location in Lehigh County, pending a deportation hearing.
According to officials, Yang intended to waive his right to deportation and travel home to China.
The Office of the Northampton County District Attorney filed a motion to have Yang returned to Northampton County. ICE cooperated and Yang was returned to Northampton County. The District Attorney is asking that Yang be held without bail as, they say, he poses a flight risk.
A hearing on the motion will be held at the discretion of the court.
