NYE Fireworks in Philly: Organizers prepare for shows over Delaware River
PHILADELPHIA - Thousands of people will be at the Delaware waterfront to experience Visit PA’s New Year's Eve fireworks shows at 6 p.m. and midnight.
Organizers are preparing for the big fireworks shows over the Delaware River for New Year’s Eve.
Despite some rain in the forecast during the early evening hours Tuesday, the fireworks are still on.
"Even with a little bit of rain and some cloud, they still shine through, so yes, we go through rain or shine," said Michael Barone, Senior Manager of Marketing and Communication at the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation.
With a lineup of festivities such as parties at Cherry Street Pier and the RiverRink Winterfest, there will be extra security to make sure everything goes smoothly.
"Safety for us is always paramount for all of our visitors down at the waterfront any day of the week and New Year's is definitely no exception. We take it very seriously, so we have a lot of measures in place," Barone emphasized.
If you plan to view the fireworks at the RiverRink or Cherry Street Pier, you will need to purchase a ticket, but there are plenty of free places you can catch them on the waterfront, like along the overpass.
