Officials: Off-duty FBI agent fatally shoots dog on Center City sidewalk

An off-duty FBI agent is accused of shooting a dog to death on a Center City sidewalk. The FBI's Philadelphia office is investigating the incident and said the agent opened fire on a "aggressive dog."

Authorities say an off-duty FBI Special Agent shot and killed an "aggressive dog" on a Philadelphia street Monday night.

The incident happened on the 1500 block of Spruce Street in Center City in front of the Touraine apartment building around 8 p.m.

The FBI's Philadelphia Office said in a tweet that initial information they received stated that an FBI Special Agent shot and wounded an aggressive dog and no one else was hurt.

"The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously," the tweet read. "We are working jointly with the Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI’s Inspection Division to investigate the incident."

Protesters gathered outside the FBI's Philadelphia Office Tuesday morning to demand justice for the dog, who they identified as Mia. Despite several calls placed to the FBI on Tuesday, FOX 29 could not confirm the identity of the agent who shot the dog.

"A gun should not have made an appearance in a dogfight, right?" Mansi Bhagwate said. "As far as I know, this goes against the department of justice's policy, because she drew a weapon in a crowded area, there was a civilian nearby and a human being could've been shot in the scuffle too."
