Pennsylvania State Trooper shot along I-676 W, in stable condition

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - A Pennsylvania State Trooper was shot along I-676 W on Tuesday morning. The trooper was shot in the shoulder and is conscious, alert, talkative, "in good spirits" and in stable condition at Hahnemann Hospital.

The shooting followed a pursuit, and the trooper had fired shots in defense from his car. Following the shooting, the suspect's car rammed into a school bus, which caught on fire. The bus company has confirmed that no children were on the bus at the time of the crash, and that the driver is okay.

Two suspects in the shooting have been apprehended, the shooter and one other; two others are being sought.

Mayor Michael Nutter said at the hospital that he spoke with the trooper, who remains in stable condition. The school bus fire is out, although the area remains a crime scene.

According to PennDOT, the eastbound and westbound I-76 travel lanes have reopened to traffic, as has I-676 westbound, although the eastbound lanes remain closed.

Pennsylvania State Police will hold a press conference at Hahnemann later today.
