Pete Mackanin will not return as Phillies Manager; will have new role

Phillies Manager Pete Mackanin will not be returning to the dugout in the spring of 2018, the Phillies announce September 29. Vice President and General Manager Matt Klentak also stated that Mackanin will remain the manager through the Phillies' final three games.

Mackanin will continue to serve as Special Assistant to the GM.

Pete Mackanin, 66, has served as the Phillies Manager since June of 2015. He is 172-237 entering the game scheduled Sept. 29.

The Phillies team record so far in 2017 is 64-95, with three games left in the season.
