Philadelphia weather: Scattered showers could dampen New Year's Eve plans
PHILADELPHIA - Confetti won't be the only thing falling from the sky this New Year's Eve as rounds of rain will soak the Philadelphia area just before the clock strikes midnight.
Forecasters expect a mild Monday with unseasonably warm temperatures in the 50s and plenty of sunshine. Those balmy temperatures will spill into Tuesday, but clouds will start to thicken as rain approaches.
Scattered showers will move into the area around 5 p.m. with the largest clusters passing over places west of Philadelphia. Patchy rain will become more widespread as the evening continues with showers that could briefly be heavy.
The good news is that forecasters don't expect the rain to ruin any outdoor New Year's Eve plans, and the system should exit the region before midnight.
Temperatures will dip back into the 40s on New Year's Day as Philadelphia celebrates the annual Mummers parade. Anyone going to the parade should consider an extra layer of warmth for gusty winds that could make temperatures feel colder.
