Philadelphia weather: Soaking rain set for Saturday, followed by gusty winds on Sunday

Another round of soaking rain will drench most of the Delaware Valley on Saturday as the region stays stuck in a wet weather pattern, but forecasters say a spring-like warm-up is on the way.

The rain will vary in intensity throughout the day for most of the region, but plan for more steady rain this evening. The rain will be heavy at times, and some spots will get over an inch.

Forecasters say the heaviest downpours will happen in Philadelphia and surrounding areas around 7 p.m. and continue through 10 p.m. The bulk of the storm will skew north and west of the city, but soaking showers could cover neighboring areas in New Jersey and Delaware.

How much rain will fall?

The National Weather Service issued Coastal Flood Warnings for Bucks, Delaware and Philadelphia counties in Pa., Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer and Salem counties in N.J., as well as Kent and New Castle in Delaware, as another round of rain could overflow rivers, creeks and streams.

In addition, a Flood Watch has been issued for all of the Philadelphia region, along with Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer counties and Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties from early Saturday afternoon through Sunday night.

Because our streams and creeks are already running high and because the ground is still very wet, the National Weather Service expanded the Flood Watch for the region. It won't take much rain in some spots to cause minor flooding.

We stay chilly today with highs in the low 50s and some breezes.

The rain wraps up around 10 p.m., and we're dry on your Sunday and even though we'll have sunnier skies, it will feel pretty cold on Sunday.

What's next?

Super strong wind is blowing into the region and we're talking wind gusts around 40 mph in the afternoon. That strong wind is pulling down cold air from Canada. Wind chills will make it feel in the upper 30s, if you're outside.

We stay sunny, windy, and chilly on Monday.

Because we have less wind Tuesday afternoon, we won't have the cold air flow down from Canada as much. This opens the door to a mild afternoon in the low 60s.

Then, without wind on Wednesday, we soar to the mid-60s and close the workweek with a high of 70 Thursday and Friday.
