Philadelphia weather: Icy conditions impact region; possible snow late Tuesday

As a system that brought freezing rain and snow to the region moves offshore, conditions for Sunday improve, but another snowy day is in the forecast.

Freezing rain fell across much of the Delaware Valley Saturday night, creating hazardous conditions. Temperatures overnight will remain around freezing to just below, which means the ice that fell will remain on the surfaces.

What we know:

The system that brought us the freezing rain and some snow is moving offshore, but temps won't rise above freezing Sunday until about noon, so be aware of slick conditions in the morning, in case you are heading out early for Super Bowl errands or church.

Temperatures Sunday will head into the low 40s, so the ice will melt by the afternoon. We will also see very gusty winds during the daylight hours. By sundown, the winds will calm.

What we don't know:

Another round of winter weather is expected in Philadelphia on Tuesday, with a chance of measurable snowfall.

Forecasters are still working to determine just how much snow the Philadelphia-area will see.

The winter storm is likely to linger into Wednesday morning, and a separate system will move in Thursday, bringing another round of light snow, which could changeover to rain.
