On Sunday around 2:20 a.m., Lower Merion Police responded to a home on Meredith Road in Lower Merion Township for a report of a home invasion shooting.

They arrived to find Andrew Gaudio, 25, deceased with multiple gunshot wounds, and Bernadette Gaudio, 61, conscious and suffering several gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the suspects entered the home through the basement.

Bernadette was transported to Lankenau Medical Center where she underwent emergency surgery. She remains in critical condition, officials say. She called 911 after she was shot to report the crime, and in the background of the call, the attackers could be heard rummaging through the house, according to court documents.

"This is a terrible homicide, there are multiple shots that are fired, including one to the head of the victim, which to me, is execution style, so we’re dealing with dangerous people here," said District Attorney Kevin Steele. "The son, Andrew, who was killed, I believe he fought back and tried to help his mom in the circumstance, and again this is a terrible, terrible case."

Home invasion leaves 1 dead, 1 critical in Lower Merion; suspects still sought

The search is on for a suspected vehicle and its driver after police say a home invasion ended with a homicide in Lower Merion early Sunday morning.

Steele says they are still unable to say whether the violent crime was targeted.

Officials say a joint investigation found dashcam footage from a Lower Merion Police patrol vehicle, which captured the officer pulling in front of a white Hyundai Azera, driven by Roberts, leaving the scene of the homicide. Roberts then drove off.

Detectives later determined that records matched the vehicle to a resident on the 5900 block of Sansom Street in Philadelphia. Investigators say a Jeep Cherokee, stolen during the home invasion, was located on Sansom Street on Sunday. Documents say surveillance video on the block also showed what investigators believe to be Jenkins, arriving in the Hyundai Azera shortly after the crime, with two large bags.

A search warrant executed at the Sansom Street home led to several items recovered, according to court documents, including a jewelry box that belonged to Bernadette.

If anyone sees Roberts, officials say do not approach and call 911. He may be armed and dangerous. Documents say he has an extensive criminal history and is wanted out of Philadelphia for a commercial burglary back in October.

The District Attorney’s Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information on this defendant that leads to his apprehension. For anyone with tips as to the whereabouts of Roberts, call Lower Merion Police Department at 610-278-3386 or Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3386.
