Philadelphia police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a vehicle from a suspected road rage incident in Rhawnhurst.

It started with an argument between two drivers at the corner of Krewstown Road and Algon Avenue.

"Some words were exchanged. The passenger got out a Grand Prix and spit on the complainant. They backed off," Northeast Detectives Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum said.

Minutes later, that quickly escalated to a road rage shooting a few blocks away.

"This time the driver was waving a gun out of the car," Lt. Rosenbaum said. "The driver then fired a shot directly at them."

It all happened Tuesday just after noon in the Rhawnhurst section between the driver of the Pontiac Grand Prix caught on surveillance video and a local couple out running errands. When one driver cut the other off, the two drivers got into it. When the couple tried to leave that's when the shooting occurred.

This is the second road rage shooting in the northeast in the past two months. Back in August, a driver with his wife and two kids in the car opened fire on a another driver on his way to a local mosque. The victim's car was riddled by gunfire. He was critically injured. The Cottman Avenue shooting was captured on surveillance video.

Police did recover a shell case at the crime scene.

The Pontiac is described as a 2004-2008 gray four-door sedan Grand Prix with tinted windows, moon roof and five-spoke wheels.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the occupants of the Pontiac or the location of the Pontiac to please contact 911 or dial 215-686-3153. Anyone with information can also report that information through the anonymous tip line at 215-686-TIPS or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
