NORTH PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - Police say three people were injured after a driver drove up onto a curb in the city's Logan section.
It happened around 4 p.m. Thursday.
Police say a 22-year-old driver in a Ford Explorer jumped a curb at the bustling intersection of Broad and Olney streets. His SUV plowed into three teens sitting on a bench who were waiting for a SEPTA bus at Olney Terminal. The driver bolted from the scene, according to police.
"He was a wanted man that maybe been his motivation to leave the scene of the accident," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Police say a witness and a good Samaritan didn't like that the man hurt three children and didn't stick around. They followed him through the streets of North Philadelphia until he parked his bruised SUV at 3rd and Delphine streets. The man hopped out of the vehicle and the witnesses did the same.
"The driver got out and moved onto train tracks up above and good Samaritan arrested and held onto this 22-year-old hit-and-run driver and held him for police," Small explained.
Police arrived and officially made an arrest, thanks to a couple of neighbors looking out for the community.
"The best thing for them to do is get a license plate number, description of driver and vehicle in this case above and beyond," Small said.
