Police: Driver fled armed gunmen in fatal West Philly hit-and-run
WEST PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - Police say a woman who jumped out of a car in West Philadelphia was struck and killed by a driver traveling in reverse as he fled armed gunmen approaching his car.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. Sunday on the 4900 block of Aspen Street.
Police say 36-year-old Abra Johnson left her vehicle because two men with guns were approaching the car.
"It appears the female was in the car and that she actually tried to jump out after it struck the last vehicle and he inadvertently ran her over," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said.
Surveillance video shows the car then went in reverse and struck three parked cars before Johnson was hit. The driver then struck a fourth vehicle before getting out of the car and walking away from the scene.
A witness performed CPR on Johnson, but she died a short time later. No other injuries were reported.
The driver of the car, a 2006 white Infiniti, remained at large Monday.
