Police seek driver in fatal North Philly hit-and-run

Police are searching for a driver who drove away after fatally striking a pedestrian in North Philadelphia, authorities say.

Police are searching for a driver who drove away after fatally striking a pedestrian in North Philadelphia. 

Authorities say the incident occurred on Thursday evening just after 10 p.m. on the 2600 block of North Broad Street in North Philadelphia. 

According to police, the driver of a red-colored Toyota SUV was going south on Broad Street when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the victim, identified as a 35-year-old man, in the middle of the street. 

The driver then fled the scene in an unknown direction, leaving the man behind, officials say.

Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead, according to authorities.

Police investigating deadly hit-and-run in North Philadelphia

A deadly hit-and-run in North Philadelphia is under investigation, authorities say.

Lifelong North Philly resident Robert Parker says drivers are always driving too fast down this stretch of Broad Street. "I mean, they fly up and down here like it's a speedway. Every day down here."

In video obtained from a nearby business, the aftermath of the crash is visible.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and active.
