Police: Father intentionally drove car into restaurant, killing daughter and daughter-in-law

A man has been charged with murder after police said he intentionally crashed his vehicle into a Gaston County restaurant Sunday afternoon, killing two people including his daughter, and injuring several others.

The wreck happened around 12 p.m. Sunday, May 20 at the Surf & Turf Restaurant on North 14th Street in Bessemer City.

Police told FOX 46 the suspect, identified as Roger Self, intentionally ran his vehicle into the building killing his daughter, Katelyn Self, a Gaston County Sheriff's Deputy. The suspect's daughter-in-law, Amanda Self, was also killed. She was a nurse at CaroMont Health in Gastonia. Victims were flown to hospitals in Gastonia and Charlotte.

A motive has not been announced.

Roger Self was taken into custody by police and he has his first court appearance on Monday afternoon. As of Sunday night, he is facing two charges for first-degree murder. More charges could follow, police said.

As for the additional victims in this case, police have only identified one so far, Josh Self, the wife of Amanda Self. He was seriously hurt.

It's unclear how many more people were injured but officers did tell FOX 46 Charlotte that some of the additional victims had ties to law enforcement.
