Police investigating pattern of indecent assault in Center City, North Philadelphia

UPDATE: Philadelphia police have arrested a suspect in a series of indecent assaults in Center City and North Philadelphia.

Erich Cunningham, 58, was taken into custody late Wednesday in the concourse area of JFK Boulevard.

Cunningham, who is currently homeless, was identified as a suspect in a number of indecent assault incidents that allegedly occurred earlier this week.

Cunningham has been charged with unlawful contact with a child, indecent assault, simple assault, and harassment.

Police are investigating following a pattern of indecent assault in Center City and North Philadelphia.

Officials say the pattern is based on the suspect's description and geographical proximity of the alleged assaults.

The first incident transpired around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was on the train platform on the 200 block of South Broad Street when an unknown man approached her, grabbed her hand and attempted to make her touch him in an indecent manner.

When the victim pulled away, the suspect indecently grabbed the victim, according to police. The victim was subsequently able run away from the suspect.

Police described the suspect as a black man who is 6 feet tall and was wearing a black jacket with black pants.

The second incident occurred only 15 minutes later. The victim, a 30-year-old woman, was at the Suburban Station Concourse on JFK Boulevard when an unknown man brushed up to her.

Police described the suspect in as a black man who is 6 feet tall and was wearing a black knit hat and a green coat.

The third incident occurred around 8 a.m. when the victim, a 15-year-old girl, was standing at 16th and Vine streets. An unknown man indecently grabbed her before walking away, according to police.

Police described the suspect as a black man who is 6 feet tall, has a light brown complexion and "appeared to be homeless."

The fourth incident occurred about a half hour later. The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was at Broad and Fairmount streets when an unknown man indecently touched her and fled.

Police described the suspect as a tall 50-year-old black man with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a long brown coat with black pants.
