CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Several police crews converged on a residential street in Cherry Hill as a homicide investigation unfolded Tuesday morning.
Police say a 45-year-old man, identified as Michael Anthony, was found unconscious outside a home on Sharrowvalle Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
At least two homes on the 100 block of the Barclay neighborhood were taped off as part of a road was blocked to traffic.
"It's shocking because it’s a great neighborhood. Never had anything like this happen before," said Chris Shelton, neighbor.
A neighbor told FOX 29's Jennifer Lee that they saw a man on the ground after hearing a scream around 7 a.m.
"It was about 7 o’clock we heard some screams and then I ran outside and unfortunately saw somebody on the ground and luckily about ten seconds after I got outside the police were here and they took over from there," said Shelton.
Police searched the home and carefully canvassed the surrounding neighborhood, even bringing in a K-9.
At one point, a family member showed up devastated and looking for answers.
A neighbor told FOX 29 the 45-year-old was a veterinarian in the area and lived in the home with his partner.
"He’s a quiet guy. I’ve never had any problems. He goes out for runs. He’s a good member of the community," said Shelton.
Before breaking down the crime scene, police also took down a bird feeder in the front yard which may contain a recording device and perhaps further evidence of where Anthony's body was found.
This is an ongoing investigation.
