(STORYFUL) The City of Cape Town has released footage showing the moment an accused gunman ambushed a police officer during a traffic stop.
Officer Nizaam Alexander was honored with a bravery award after he returned fire and pursued the gunman who shot him in the back on November 17. Unable to capture the suspect, Officer Nizaam Alexander returns to his duties before seeking medical attention.
South Africa's News24 says Alexander sustained a flesh wound and was released from hospital shortly after the attack. According to the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works, the bullet proof vest prevented him from serious injury.
