Police share images of car that struck Off-duty SEPTA officer

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) A SEPTA officer is in a hospital bed after a jog with his wife ended in disaster.

"Thank God he's alive. He could be dead," his wife told FOX 29.

A tearful wife is searching for answers. A picture shows SEPTA Police Officer Gary Miller and his wife, Clara, on Sunday afternoon before their weekly jog in Northeast Philadelphia.

Hours later, he was in a hospital bed with a broken leg. a broken collarbone and a concussion. His injuries were caused by a hit-and-run driver, according to police.

It happened near Rowland and Chippendale in Mayfair.

Officer Miller, a 44-year-old, 13-year SEPTA police veteran, was run down while jogging along side of the road. Police say the driver took off.

Police only have a description of a man with dark hair in his 20's who was driving and older model blue Toyota Corolla or a baby blue Saturn Sedan with a shattered windshield.

People who live nearby complain of high speeds and say this isn't the first accident here.

Officer Miller is a family man just celebrated graduations for two sons--one from college and one from the Air Force.

As his wife holds on to his wedding band, she has a message for the driver.

"He's not no animal. You should have just stop and check on him. Just turn yourself in. Why? Why did you do this to my family?," she said.

One of Officer Miller's first visitors in the hospital was SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel. Investigators say if you have any information on this case, please call Philadelphia police.

Police have since released images and video of the car involved.
