Teen chased and killed becomes 17th Philly school student killed since last August

A 15-year-old student is dead after police say he was chased down a Philadelphia street and fatally shot. The School District of Philadelphia said the teen, a student at Kensington High School, was the 17th Philadelphia school student killed since last August.

A 15-year-old is dead after police say he was chased down a Philadelphia street by a group of gunmen and shot at least 10 times.

Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 6100 block of Algon Street around noon Monday for reports of a shooting.

Police found a 15-year-old boy shot five times in the torso and five times in the leg, according to investigators. The boy was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he died.

Three different ballistics were recovered at the scene, leading investigators to believe that there may have been three shooters.

Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore told reporters that surveillance footage shows the victim being chased down the 6100 block of Algon Street by at least three people.

Vanore mentioned a disturbance earlier in the day at nearby Samuel Fels High School where a group of people tried to enter the building which caused a brief lock down.

Authorities are investigating if the disturbance at the school and the deadly shooting are related.

The 15-year-old was a student at Kensington High School, according to the Philadelphia School District, who say he is the 17th students killed this school year and the 78th student shot.

Police later identified the teen as Neko Rivera.

This comes less than two weeks after a 14-year-old boy was shot multiple times and killed in Overbrook.
