Police: Uber driver hits, kills woman in street

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF/AP) - Police are investigating a deadly overnight accident. They say an Uber driver hit a woman who walked in front of his car.

It happened at about 1:20am in North Philadelphia.

Investigators say the victim crossed the 2200 block of Cecil B. Moore in front of the car. The driver tried to swerve but didn't have enough space, and hit her. Investigators say the woman wasn't using crosswalk.

She was taken to the hospital but later died.

Police say the driver wasn't impaired, stopped at the scene and has cooperated with police.

An Uber spokesperson put out this statement: "Our hearts go out to the victim. We are cooperating with authorities to assist in their investigation."
