Police say they are investigating the murder of a young woman who was house-sitting in Woodbury, New Jersey.

Neighbors on Hopkins Street admit they're scared after investigators revealed that 26-year-old Shawneeq Carter had been beaten to death in a home on their block.

Brandy Dooner lives three doors down from the murder scene. She said police were everywhere Saturday night when Carter's body was found here. Police now say she was house-sitting.

"This is a great street. Everybody works on this street. Everybody pays their taxes. All the kids play together," Dooner told FOX 29.

No one answered the door at the home where the murder occurred. John Jones lives just down the block from the crime scene with his wife. The murder had him shook up.

"It's a real tragedy. It's a horrible thing. She was probably a nice lady," he said.

Police said Tuesday whoever committed the murder is "not a threat to the community" but wouldn't elaborate.

Investigators won't say what the murder weapon was or what the motive was for the killing. No one at the home address for Shawneeq Carter would speak with FOX 29 tonight.
