Suspect facing multiple charges after being accused of recklessly driving on popular sidewalks in South Jersey

Police await the toxicology reports of a suspect after he allegedly drove recklessly on popular sidewalks in South Jersey, causing major damage to a local restaurant.

Thursday evening brought some unexpected chaos to a typically peaceful South Jersey town known as a gathering place for many locals.

Officers received several reports of a vehicle driving recklessly along the 100–200 blocks of Kings Highway in Haddonfield around 6 p.m.

Video obtained by FOX 29 shows the vehicle driving down the sidewalk as people walked by, crashing into a brick structure outside The British Chip Shop seconds later.

A vehicle driving recklessly along the 100–200 blocks of Kings Highway in Haddonfield, crashes in front of a popular shopping strip in South Jersey.

FOX 29's Jennifer Lee arrived at the scene to speak with locals, city officials and more after the shocking incident. 

The British Chip Shop's property manager, John Poliero, estimated the damages could cost approximately $10,000. 

Skid marks can be seen on the sidewalk for at least 500 feet.

After a brief search, police say a driver was taken into custody in Audubon and his vehicle became disabled. He was identified as 30-year-old Christian Capacchione of National Park.

According to Haddonfield's Police Chief, Capacchion will face a lot of charges related to motor vehicle incidents and in Audubon he faces charges related to burglary, resisting arrest and terroristic threats.

Motor vehicle and criminal charges are pending a toxicology report, according to authorities.

No injuries have been reported.
