ATLANTA - FOX 5 has confirmed Congressman John Lewis has been released from the hospital.
He was hospitalized Saturday for an undisclosed reason.
A spokesperson for Lewis sent FOX 5 the following statement Sunday evening:
All tests have been completed, and doctors have given him a "clean bill of health". He thanks everyone who shared their thoughts, prayers and concerns during his stay.
In a statement sent to FOX 5 on Saturday from Lewis' office, a representative said that Lewis was in the hospital Saturday night for a "routine observation."
The representative said the 78-year-old Georgia congressman was "resting comfortably."
Lewis, a Democrat, played a key role in the civil rights movement and marched with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965 in Selma, Alabama.
Lewis was expected at an Atlanta event Saturday evening but did not attend.
