South Jersey residents shocked by alert, cancelation of school

An incident in Dennis Township put the community on edge for several hours Tuesday, along with an advisory urging residents to be "vigilant" and "secure."

No active threats were reported after officials say an "isolated incident" in a small Cape May County community prompted residents to be told to remain indoors.

The Dennis Township official Facebook page first reported Tuesday morning that a New Jersey State Police investigation was unfolding in Seaville area of the town.

The advisory urged residents to "be vigilant and keep yourself and property secured." The disturbance also caused the local school district to halt bus services.

Officials provided an update before noon Tuesday that let residents know there are no active threats.

"There was an isolated incident this morning, and there are no active threats in any area of Dennis Township," officials said.

Officials said there is still an ongoing investigation, but they're still awaiting information from New Jersey State Police.
