Roxborough High School Shooting: Fifth suspect captured in Philadelphia over a year after shooting

Authorities say a fifth suspect wanted in connection with a deadly shooting outside Roxborough High School last year has been taken into custody.

U.S. Marshals said Monday that Dayron Burney-Thorn, 17, was arrested in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood.

Authorities released photos from Burney-Thorn's capture Monday afternoon and explained that he attempted to flee by jumping from a fourth-floor apartment. He sustained undisclosed injuries and was taken away on a stretcher.

His arrest comes just over a year after the shooting that left 15-year-old Nicolas Elizalde dead and four other teens injured on the 300 block of Fairway Terrace on Sept. 27, 2022.

Members of the Roxborough High School football team had just finished participating in a joint scrimmage on the afternoon of the shooting.

Yaaseen Bivins, 21, Zyhied Jones, 17, Saleem Miller, 16, and 15-year-old Troy Fletcher have previously been arrested and charged in connection to the deadly shooting.

Burney-Thorn was the first suspect to be publicly identified by investigators, but had evaded capture for nearly 13 months. He was wanted on multiple charges including murder, conspiracy, and four counts of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
