Body of New Jersey high school student pulled from lake after 17-hour search

A GoFundMe page says Victor Rodriguez, a senior student at Pitman High School and previously a student at Deptford High School, died while participating in a scavenger hunt.

The body of a high school student was pulled from the waters of a South Jersey lake Monday following an extensive search. 

A GoFundMe page says Victor Rodriguez, a senior student at Pitman High School and previously a student at Deptford High School, died while participating in a scavenger hunt.

Borough of Pitman Mayor Michael Razze said the Victor was found in Alcyon Lake after a 17-hour search that began on Sunday night.

"On behalf of the entire borough, our deepest condolences to his family, friends, fellow students and the PHS Class of 2023," Mayor Razze wrote. 

A prayer vigil for Rodriguez was organized Monday night at Pitman United Methodist Church. 

"When we go through hard times our goal is to pay for each other, to build each other up, to restore hope in a hurting situation," said Justin Hellyer from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Rodriguez was slated to graduate from Pitman High School this week.
