Search for woman believed to have fallen from cruise ship called off

The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for a passenger missing from a cruise ship that sailed out of Galveston, Texas.

A Coast Guard statement says search and rescue coordinators suspended the search for Samantha Broberg in the Gulf of Mexico at about 8:15pm Sunday.

The statement says crews searched for 20 hours and covered more than 4,300 square miles.

Earlier, the Coast Guard said its district command center in New Orleans was contacted by the master of the cruise ship Carnival Liberty. The ship about 200 miles southeast of Galveston reported that a surveillance video showed a woman falling overboard about 2am Friday.

All passengers were checked and Broberg, 33, was found to be missing.

A hometown for Broberg was not given.
