OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - A serial animal abuser has been shooting cats with a pellet gun in Oakland, and now, a group is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever is perpetrating the abuse.
Over the past five weeks, Oakland Animal Services has taken in four cats suffering from severe injuries from a pellet gun, according to executive director Rebecca Katz.
All four cats came from the area within a two-mile mile radius of the Lower Diamond neighborhood and the injuries on the cats appear to be related and to have come from the same type of weapon, Katz said.
One of the cats had to be euthanized. And Katz said that the shelter is taking care of the three others, who have been named Frankie, Percy and Morgan.
"Violence against animals is one of the strongest indicators for other crimes and violent acts," Katz said. "The cruelty of these acts is of concern to both the human and nonhuman members of Oakland's community."
The Friends of OAS is offering a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the person/people responsible for injuring these cats. Donations to the reward fund can be made here.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact Oakland Animal Services at 510-535-4895. Oakland Animal Services accepts anonymous tips.
