Snow by the Shore: NJ residents, business owners react to winter storm
OCEAN CITY, NJ - Cape May County has accumulated more than 8 inches of snow since Monday morning.
"Snow is one of the funniest things that be it ya know the kids like it its a snow day they’re out of school," said Tony Jounzi, owner of a local business.
The slick road conditions and low visibility also prompted Governor Phil Murphy to declare a state of emergency for seven counties in southern Jersey, including Cape May County.
"Not great. The roads are not in the best condition it took me about an hour and a half to get from Ocean City to Cape May which should take like a half hour 40 minutes so it was a little scary out there," Siegel said.
After getting sent home early from work, Siegel spent his afternoon putting the shovel to the ground.
"It's not too bad. Pretty fluffy it's not that super dense soaking wet stuff so it's not back breaking yet," he added.
However, most people in the beach town decided to stay off the roads as the Department of Transportation recommended.
Almost every store also was closed except for a few such as Chelsea Pizza.
"It's always been a tradition for us. Always open up on a snow day. Pretty much the statement that nothing can stop us," Jounzi said.

Johnsons, the local appliance store, also stayed open.
"It's a regular day to us so we are getting the snow from the front of the store getting ready to salt and make sure no accidents happen here," said Julian Jackson of North Wildwood.
And what would a snow day in Jersey be if people didn’t take advantage of the fresh blanket of white covering the boardwalk?
"It's not too bad it's a good workout though. We went all the way down to the crane and back so it's a good day," said Vickie Martorano of Somers Point.
