Snowmen take over this NJ town in festive holiday attraction
MEDFORD, NJ - Snowmen of all shapes, sizes and personalities are popping up along Taunton Boulevard in the Lake Pine community of Medford, N.J. sparking joy for people of all ages this holiday season.
"Kids were going down the street singing ‘Frosty the Snowman’", said neighbor Kim Guaracino. "One of my friends, she brought her 80-year-old mom on the street and she said she giggled the whole time. I love that."
Guaracino tells us it was Lake Pine neighbor, Sue Grant’s, idea.
"I’ve always loved snowmen," said Sue Grant.
And when she saw a national story of one neighborhood that was filled with Santa blow-up decorations, Sue said, "I’d love to do that with snowmen!"
Word spread quickly on social media.
"I had a few people chime in right away," said Grant. "Next thing I know I think Amazon was very busy! That next week, all the snowmen started popping up onto yards."
And now, it’s a full-blown attraction! As we were interviewing Sue, a bus from the Medford Leas Retirement Community pulled up.
"We’re just driving around looking at Christmas lights and heard about snowmen. We thought we’d come check it out," said Terry Tuffnell, who handles activities for the retirement community.
It’s bringing people together.
"I tell everybody I love what my street is doing. I love what my development is doing. The fact that it took off is just really neat," Guaracino said.
While Grant says she didn’t want anyone to feel pressure to play the game, she is thrilled with the outcome.
"Thank you to the community for doing this. I was happy everyone decided to do this, a fun thing that makes people smile," said Grant.
