CHESTER, Pa. - A violent collision caused a northbound stretch of Interstate 95 through Delaware County to close during Monday morning's rush hour, officials said.
Emergency responders were called to mile marker 6 on the highway just before 6 a.m for reports of a two-vehicle crash that involved a tractor-trailer fire.
Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police found a Pepsi truck engulfed in flames and another crashed vehicle that had been left abandoned.
Investigators believe the crashed vehicle was to blame for the violent collision, and the two people who fled the car have since turned themselves in to police.
Authorities say another crash happened when a vehicle stuck in backed up traffic tried to make an illegal u-turn and started driving in the wrong direction.
The driver, according to police, struck several vehicles while driving southbound in the northbound lane, and abandoned the vehicle.
Police are still searching for the driver. No serious injuries have been reported as a result of either crash.
