Sumpter Twp. couple wanted for murder of girl, 4, arrested in Georgia

A Sumpter Township couple wanted for the murder of a 4-year-old girl has been arrested by US Marshals.

Candice Diaz, the girl's mother, and her boyfriend Brad Fields were arrested Tuesday in Lake Park, Georgia off I-75 near the state line of Florida. They were caught on I-75 and are being held in the county jail.

Diaz, 24, and Fields, 28, are suspected in the death of her 4-year-old daughter Gabby Barrett. She was found with burns all over her body and showed signs of other abuse in her Sumpter Township home on New Year's Day.

The two are facing charges of homicide felony murder, second degree murder, first degree child abuse and torture.

A relative of Fields says the fugitive couple have been together on and off for six years - and during that time one thing was constant violence. All of that allegedly led to the death of little Gabby.

"Just a very violent, scary person," said Ken Stambaugh, Fields' cousin. "You could tell that he had a lot of control over her. If another man came into the room she put her head down, wasn't allowed to talk or had to leave the room."

Both Diaz and Fields are no strangers to the law, both with criminal records. Police visits to the couple are documented. In 2016 cops called out to the Rawsonville Woods Mobile Home Park after Fields allegedly shot the dog, shot himself and beat up Diaz.

A GoFundMe has been set up by the victim's grandfather for a memorial service. CLICK HERE to donate.
