Surveillance video captures Norristown hit-and-run

Norristown, Pa. (WTXF) Surveillance video captured a hit-and-run that injured a 6-year-old child.

Just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, a child on a bike t-boned a car on Oakwood Avenue near Hamilton Street in Norristown.

"This guy was flying down the street. I'd say 20 miles over the speed limit," said witness Samantha Rieder.

Police confirm the driver took off from the scene as the boy laid motionless on the ground.

"He went into the side passenger door of the car-- full force on the side of the car. That's heartbreaking," said witness Susan Juliano.

Susan Juliano's surveillance cameras captured it all.

"I ran down to the little boy grabbed his hand and told him to lay still because he was bleeding in the back of the head and the mouth,"Susan explained.

Susan says the child told her he was 6 years old. He cried until his mother arrived at the scene.

"I kept telling him to lay still mommy's coming."

The surveillance cameras show the driver flying in reverse - towards the child on the ground - then the gold Camry disappears from the frame.

"We saw him put the car in reverse extremely fast and back down the alley. Apparently, so no one could see the license plate," Susan explained.

Police say the child was transported to CHOP and is listed in stable condition. Investigators confirm they recovered the vehicle involved in the hit and run but the driver hasn't been found.

"I hope they catch him and he loses his license so he can't drive. A person like that doesn't belong behind a wheel," said Susan.
