Dirt bike rider shot by police after he pulls gun on them

Philly police discharge their weapons when a dirt bike rider pulls a gun on them.

A suspect on a dirt bike who, police say, pulled a gun on Philadelphia police, is now in the hospital after he was shot in return, sources say.

The incident took place at North 6th and West Somerset streets, in Philadelphia’s Fairhill neighborhood, Saturday afternoon, around 3:15.

Officers with the department’s ATV and dirt bike enforcement unit confronted a man about driving a dirt bike illegally on city streets. As a uniformed officer was explaining the situation, the man produced a gun.

A backup officer at the scene discharged his weapon and struck the man twice.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

No additional details were released by officials.
