PHILADELPHIA - Police shot and killed a man Monday morning who they say shot four of his relatives inside a Philadelphia home, killing three.
Jahad Snead, 41, died after police say he fired on time at officers who stopped his vehicle while investigating a quadruple shooting Monday at a home in the city's Lawncrest section. Police returned fire and struck Snead, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition before he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators believe Snead shot four family members inside a home on the 6100 block of Shelbourne Street early Monday morning. Police say three of the victims - Denise Snead-Doran, 63, Gregory Doran, 61, and Nina O'Brien, 42 - died. A 42-year-old woman was also struck by gunfire but survived, according to police.
Two hours after the triple homicide, police in East Mount Airy stopped Snead's vehicle at the corner of Phil-Ellna and Ross streets. There, police say Snead fired once at police from inside his SUV and police returned fire, killing Snead.
FOX 29's Jeff Cole reports that Snead has a "significant criminal history" that includes serving a voluntary manslaughter prison term on a guilty plea in the early-2000s.
