PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating after they say a teenager was killed in a shooting that occurred in Philadelphia’s Oxford Circle section Tuesday afternoon.
Officers responded to a shooting on the 1200 block of Van Kirk Street around 4 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
A 16-year-old later identified by police as Jamil Wyatt was found shot several times in the torso, according to police.
The teen was transported to Jefferson Frankford Hospital by police where they say he succumbed to his injuries.
FOX 29's Steve Keeley was at the scene and spoke with Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, who gave more details into the fatal shooting.
After reviewing private surveillance footage, Chief Small said three male shooters chased the victim and fired over 50 gunshots.
The chief says the footage then shows the victim collapse and two of the shooters stand directly over him and continue to fire more shots from just a few feet away.
"It appears that this was an execution type homicide of this 16-year-old male," said Chief Small.

Small said the victim was temporarily staying with a family at a home on the block where the shooting occurred.
Wyatt was walking alone to the store at the time of the incident, police say.
"Three individuals, dressed in all black and had masks on, exited a white 2013 Nissan Sentra. This car had light tinted windows," said Staff Inspector Ernest Ransom, Homicide Unit, PPD. "They began to chase Mr. Wyatt through the driveway firing their weapons. Ultimately, Mr. Wyatt was shot multiple times. He then falls to the ground and the shooters begin to shoot again as he is on the ground."
The three suspects were last seen in the white 2013 Nissan Sentra that fled from the rear driveway of Van Kirk Street.
Juan Gonzalez, a neighbor on the block, says one of the 60 shots fired went into the wall of his home and another hit the windshield of his sister’s car.
"It is definitely tragic," said Gonzalez. "I hope they turn things around very fast and get whoever did this to that young boy."
Police say Wyatt has had prior contact with the PPD, but they do not know why he would be targeted.
"It’s another senseless murder in the city of Philadelphia and a juvenile as well it’s sad. It has to stop we have to find a way to get the guns off the street as well but I think importantly if you know something you have to say something and tell us what’s going on," said Staff Inspector Ernest Ransom, Homicide Unit, PPD.
No weapons were recovered at the scene and no arrests have been made.
This is an ongoing investigation.
