Teen sentenced in murder of 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde

Zyheid Jones, 19, has been sentenced for the 2022 murder of 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde.

A 19-year-old man has been sentenced for his role in the September 2022 murder of 14-year-old Nicholas Elizalde, and killing of 19-year-old Tahmir Jones one day prior.

A judge sentenced Zyheid Jones, 19, to 30-60 years after pleading guilty to two counts of Third-Degree Murder, two counts of Conspiracy, four counts of Attempted Murder, and related gun crimes, for his role in Elizalde’s murder, the wounding of four other children outside Roxborough High School on September 27, 2022, and for fatally shooting Jones the day before.

"We can only hope that the family and friends of Nicholas and Tahmir will find some solace with this outcome. And while convictions won't bring back Nicholas and Tahmir nor heal the physical and psychological scars endured by Nicholas' classmates who were injured in this heinous act, my office will vigorously pursue justice against the remaining defendants and hold them accountable, and we will continue to support the co-victims of this senseless tragedy," said DA Larry Krasner.
